About the Class:
Tai Chi is a form of Chinese martials arts that focuses on internal components and structural alignment of the body to defeat an opponent. While often thought of as a meditative form with no martial application, that is a common misconception. The principles of Tai Chi are rooted in similar principles to other marital arts, but executed in what appears to be a softer fashion. In ancient China, Tai Chi was considered a finishing art, reserved for the wealthy and nobility due to the time required to master it. While an individual can be introduced and become proficient at the basic concepts in a short period of time, Tai Chi truly takes a lifetime to master. The Bā Mén Hóng Lóng Tai Chi system is a blend of Tai Chi at its heart, sprinkled with other forms of Kung Fu to provide a comprehensive and effective fighting system. Its original purpose and design was to introduce the internal soft style components and principles to hard style practitioners (Karate, Taekwondo, etc). It has since evolved, like all good marital arts, to build a well-rounded martial artist. This program will be broken down into 4 week blocks of instruction. Tuesday night will focus on learning the form and movement patters of the various drills. Thursday's class will focus on the application and theory behind Tai Chi and its use. |
